Raising Women's Voices
Thanks Sheila! I referenced your post as a related post in this one. My video got a comment from a Texan against reform. I hope your embed will spark people in favor of it. Great blog you have!
Very funny, John. Did you also see that CBS showed the offensive kiss this morning but blurred out the faces? I wonder if Adam and Harry Smith had a little fun while Maggie was doing another hard hitting interview.
No, I didn't see it. How pathetic. They probably only did it because
they're the lowest rated morning network.
Boycott the Manchester Grand Hyatt
Anti worker and anti gay hotel!
Trust me, we’ll NEVER stay there again.
Your career is finished, Joe!
You join Senator Joe McCarthy—as the most despised Senators in History.
Thanks @Dthomas. Help spread this around. I want him to be toast in the social media sphere.
LOL! That's good…
Thanks for the holiday card! Happy Hanukkah & Merry Christmas!
love it!!! hope you have a great xmas and happy new year!!!!
I am on my 5th viewing. I just love it!!! Have fun in Karachi. So sad I won't be there.
This is great John, thanks! I'd encourage you to check out:
Sweet Disposition, Temper Trap
M79, Vampire Weekend
Don't Throw Me Away, The Mumlers
New Theory, Washed Out
Songs Remind Me of You, Annie
-T
Cool list! Fave tracks from albums I've heard so far this year:
Röyksopp: The Girl and the Robot
Fever Ray: When I Grow Up
Animal Collective: My Girls
Little Boots: Hearts Collide
Regina Spektor: The Calculation
La Roux: Bulletproof
Lily Allen: The Fear
Howling Bells: Nightingale
Gossip: Heavy Cross
Tracy, thanks for the tips. I will check those out. I love the new
Vampire Weekend track Cousins. And the Annie LP was on my list. Thanks.
Scott, thanks for your recommendations. I'll give those tracks a
listen. Do you like the whole Animal Collective album? Glad you liked
Howling Bells.
To me, that Bat for Lashes song sounds a LITTLE like Fleetwood Mac's 1982 album, Mirage (the one with “Gypsy” and “Hold Me,”) after the 1:00 mark.
Nice List!
If I were to put my top 10 for 2009, this would be it.
Some might not be from “2009″, but they were new to me in 2009.
Glasvegas – Geraldine
the grizzly bears – two weeks
snow den – anti-anti
One Eskimo – Kandi
Zoe Keating – Sun Will set
Brett Dennen – San Francisco
Mat Kearney – All I need
Gomez – Airstream Driver
Monsters of Folk – Baby Boomer
Troy,
I love the Glasvegas album and especially Geraldine-the social worker!
I have to get and listen to Grizzly Bear. It's on everyone's lists.
Love the One Eskimo track you turned me on to. Mat Kearney I just
heard recently and I remember his voice sounding like Chris Martin's.
Haven't hears the new Gomez or Monsters of Folk. I'll check them out.
Thanks Bogdan, I'll check that point out. Loved that Fleeteood Mac
album.
Nice list John, listening right now on Lala. A few overlaps with the list I made; Muse , La Roux, Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Fever Ray. I sent you my list too (Gigsby on Lala). Wishing you much great music in 2010!
Bora,
Already got through half of your list on LaLa. I loved the Fuck
Buttons track, Temper Trap, and Maps. Love that album. Will send you a
note when finished. Thanks for the comment.
Great list–John!
just wanted to say i love the Bat for Lashes song—she reminds me a little of Tori Amos, and actually, i hear an instrumental riff in the song that is straight out of Tori's song “Caught a light sneeze”. But she blows Adele out of the woods!
Funny! Thanks.
Great pictures! Good to see Thrity's doing well!
Thanks Scott. Glad you enjoyed them. The Dubai ones will be posted
separately.
Wow, how cool to see the other side of the family! I'm glad to hear everyone was so hospitable. How was the tea over there?
Dustin
It was delicious as was all the food and drink.
Amazing photos, John!
Thanks Diane. I spent a lot of time on them. Glad you enjoyed them.
I loved the Old Dubai , New Dubai video with the music; you are so clever that someone out there in this vast network marketing arena should definitely hire you to promote their company with videos with that excellent selection of music-very entertaining. May I just say that the real estate video was quite clever too. New type of exposure to Fran and the like. patty
Thanks Patty. I appreciate it. The real estate one was a test!
I recently got a $50 gift card to iTunes so I've been using your postings to guide me to new music and get out of my same old music rut. Your “best of” list has been particularly helpful. Many thanks!
That just made my day! And here I thought no one was paying attention!
Thanks Diane.
My top albums for 2009 will be out soon too.
I am definitely paying attention!! If it weren't for you, how else would I know about this music. Honestly, I'd probably only heard of two of the artists before reading your posts. Radio out here sucks, I don't go to clubs, I'm in musical hell with only WPLR that plays nothing but the same old Aerosmith, Led Zep, etc. And it's guaranteed that if they announce that a Clash song will be coming up, it will be Rock the Casbah. Makes me want to scream. Would it kill them to just once play Magnificent Seven???
Diane, Radio is pathetic almost everywhere I think – except in those small
college towns where they have college radio. I totally agree with you. There
are so many other great Clash songs. If someone from another country were
visiting here and driving around with the radio on, they would think we were
still in the 70's or 80's (unless of course they were listening to the
oldies channel!)
Also, I highly recommend http://www.kcrw.com/. You can listen over the
Internet to their Eclectic 24. They have links for the playlists and also
have a lot of in studio performances. It's been a favorite of mine since I
lived in CA and I'm so glad I can access it here via the Internet. You can
also look at the DJ's picks under the music tab.
I will definitely send you a copy of my Top Albums compilation for 2009 as
soon as I'm finished.
I hope you remember that kid's face. I'm pretty sure you'll run into him in Chelsea in about 5 years
That's right Sean!
