Thank You Sean Penn and Thank You Academy.

This year’s Oscar ceremony was very different from the usual. I was glad that they skipped all of the cynical humor that usually comes with this evening. Given the current worldwide situation, jabs at Hollywood, any political administration or even banks would have been out of order. As always The Oscars are meant to take us back to the glamour and glitz of old Hollywood. They’re supposed to take us back to that Hollywood that really doesn’t exist any more and possibly never really did, except in people’s fantasies. The Swarovski crystals, the blue design, and the backdrop were truly fabulous and did evoke that Hollywood fantasy for me. And given our current situation, what’s wrong with fantasizing?

Our New Addition to The Family – Romeo!

Most of you have heard by now about the new love of our life. Romeo is the miniature silver-dapple dachshund that has been keeping us busy since the 12th of January. He’s grown by 4 pounds and doubled his length since we first got him as you’ll be able to see from the photographs in Romeo’s slideshow. He’s a bundle of energy and has brought so much joy… and more joy to our lives.

My Academy Award Predictions

Not having seen all of this year’s Oscar nominees, I don’t know how well my predictions would fare in Vegas. But based on what I have seen, read, and the inevitible “it’s her/his year” academy political buzz,  my predictions for the major nominees are below. The biggest disappointment and shock to me was that neither Leo nor Kate were nominated for Revoultionary Road in the actor/actress categories. Continue reading

Beware of US Airways’ “Choice Seats”

US Airways offers what they call “choice seats” for $15 extra. When I asked what was different about these seats I was told that they were closer to the front of the plane. I told them that I had never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. No extra leg room. No free beverage. Are they desperate or just an airline in 2009?
 
I’m now on the second leg if a flight to San Diego and I’m waiting at Sky Harbor in the plane for them to fix a maintenance problem. Already a 45 minute delay. Complain. Complain. Complain.
